I need some of your ideas

I have a 17 year old son in Las Vegas. I'm sending him a dime for Christmas, but it comes with a homework assignment. I want him to put it to use towards a money-making venture so he can get some real-world experience with money. I need some ideas from you if you'd be so kind.

Of the top of my head....invest in a vending machine route, get into a network marketing system like Nikken products or Amway (don't laugh), buy some lawn care equipment and start cutting lawns.

I don't want him just flipping burgers somewhere. I'm trying to teach him the power of ideas over simply performing physical labor. I'll appreciate your input.

Yeah LAWN CARE, or even POOL CLEANING. More parents need to try this. I mean really, nowadays its just give, give, give. They need to be taught.

car deatiling products = about $30 per car

that's how I got started, then came the lawn care. Then I learned how to install radios and alarms as well as tint car windows.

Not a bad idea at all. I will use this on my own kids (when they're old enough).

I had a bunch of friends that did the lawn care stuff during college..

It actually became a good biz...
they are making more doing that now than with the college degree since the economy sucks..

try that one..

Very good idea though American..
my parents always made us work for money instead of giving it to us like my friends parents did...

We get an allowence as well (only while we are in college) - but it isn't just given..
we have to make yearly an monthly budgets to show them why we need the money and then we have to maintain the budget..

It really helps teach the value of money..

Hey American,
I setup my brother-in-law with a virtual tour business. He's in college so it works nice that he can make his own schedule for it. With $1k you can buy a digital camera and stitching software and have plenty of dough leftover to make flyers and business cards and start marketing to all the Real Estate Agents in the area.
They all want virtual tours of their properties nowadays, especially the high end ones.

It takes about an hour to shoot the pics and an hour to put them together and he charges $75.
He also sells to insurance companies to document home coverage plans and he landed a deal with an apartment management company that wanted tours of their 36 different properties around the state.
